Highlights
Preliminary programme is published under conference programme.
Until then note that confirmed speakers include:
Carolyn Cesta (SE)
Cesta is assistant professor at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm and a member of the executive committee of the Nordic Pharmacoepidemiological Network. She recently first-authored a paper published in December 2023 in JAMA Internal Medicine that explores safety-issues related to using GLP-1 receptor agonists in early pregnancy. At NFS 2024 Cesta will present
data from this paper that allows practitioners in reproductive medicine to better council their patients on
the reproductive risks involved in using modern weight-loss medication whilst attempting pregnancy.
Stine Gry Kristensen (DK)
Kristensen is Senior Scientist and Head of the Laboratory of Reproductive Biology at Copenhagen University Hospital.
She holds the position as basic science officer in the ESHRE SIG on Fertility Preservation and has served as associate editor
of Human Reproduction and also been a member of the editorial board of Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics.
NFS 2024-participants will have the opportunity to hear this renowned scientist give a lecture on the
hitherto scantly explored world of preantral ovarian follicles. When and if we learn how to influence the transition from
preantral to antral follicles, a number of clinical applications will follow, and Kristensen will highlight her cutting-edge research in this field.
Vegard Skirbekk (NO)
Skirbekk is professor at Columbia University in NYC and senior researcher at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health. His recently published book “Decline and prosper” challenges the view that population growth is always beneficial. On the contrary, Skirbekk argues, we would be better off if we adapted to a world with fewer children. His lecture at NFS 2024 will back up these claims with extensive data from various sources, thus hopefully challenging participants’ views on population growth also in our Nordic countries.
Terhi Piltonen (FI)
Piltonen is professor at Oulu University and MAR-practitioner with an impressive track-record in PCOS research. She was a leading figure in writing the 2023 International evidence-based guideline for the assessment and management of PCOS, a collaborative global effort between all the world’s major societies in reproductive medicine. At NFS 2024 Piltonen will share some “behind-the-scenes” details on how such a guideline is prepared and curate a collection of the most important take-home messages from that publication.
Helga Sol Olafsdottir (IS)
Olafsdottir has worked in MAR for over 25 years, is associate professor at University of Iceland at the faculty of social work, and her lectures on working as a MAR professional have won much international praise. At NFS 2024 Olafsdottir will share with participants how the borders between professional and personal life can become blurred in a time where personalized and individualized care is in high demand, and with SoMe constantly available to share experiences both good and bad.
